Description

In this unit students will plan, conduct, and report on a research-based project to investigate a contemporary issue in applied professional psychology. Students will present their findings in a written report and an oral presentation for a professional audience. Students will also reflect on their learning and development of professional competencies across the course in preparation for seeking employment.

Prerequisite Rule

Must have passed PSY6503, PSY6504

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Design a scientifically sound research strategy to investigate a contemporary issue in applied professional psychology.
  2. Synthesise and critically evaluate contemporary scientific literature to address a research question relevant to applied professional psychology.
  3. Communicate research findings and recommendations effectively in oral and written formats.
  4. Articulate and reflect on professional competencies within the scientist-practitioner model.

Unit Content

  1. Developing a capstone project to investigate a research question relevant to professional psychology.
  2. Presentation of project to peers and colleagues at an industry showcase event.
  3. Preparation for job applications and Psychology Board of Australia internship.

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECUs LMS

Students will engage in independent research on their chosen topic. Students will participate in a research project showcase and industry liaison event .

Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant School Progression Panel.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.
