Description

The unit forms part of the Professional Practice program available to students wishing to proceed to a Bachelor of Commerce Professional. It is a prerequisite for SBL4520 Professional Practice. To meet the intended learning outcomes, this unit requires students to conduct research on and liaise with their intended host organisation for their Professional Practice program. Students will also be required to prepare for their industry placement experience, including risk management and health and safety compliance. The unit will develop student understanding of corporate social responsibility, codes of conduct and standards of practice and sustainability in a contemporary work environment. Students will consider the micro and macro environment of a particular organisation and evaluate a range of business issues in relation to these. They will adopt a consulting approach and generate innovative solutions to these business issues. Enrolment into this unit is by invitation and application ONLY. Invited students will need to formally apply by submitting a Resume/CV and a statement and/or video addressing the selection criteria relevant to the Bachelor of Commerce Professional. They may also be required to attend an interview with the Work Integrated Learning team and/or their host employer. As this unit focuses on a specific organisational context, no RPL will be considered.

Co-Requisite Rule

Students must be enrolled into W22 Bachelor of Commerce Professional to enrol into this unit.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Critically analyse corporate social responsibility, the code of conduct and standards of practice and sustainability in a professional setting.
  2. Critically analyse and evaluate business issues in a professional setting.
  3. Think creatively and critically to generate innovative solutions to routine business issues.

  1. Generating innovative solutions to routine business issues.
  2. Critical evaluation of existing corporate social responsibility, code of conduct and standards of practice and sustainability in the professional setting.
  3. Critical analysis and evaluation of business issues.
  4. Preparation for industry placement experience.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Students will be required to participate in on-campus learning sessions where they will engage with their Lecturer/Unit Coordinator and other participants in the Professional Practice program. Students will also be required to engage in independent online tasks and activities which will be aligned with their assessments. Students will be required to complete pre-placement modules on the requirements and procedures for completing the professional practice program, including documentation and risk management compliance.
