Description

In this unit, students are required to complete a minimum of 22 weeks of supported work experience in a professional setting. This is typically structured on a full-time basis (37.5 hours) but working arrangements may vary on an individual basis. Students are required to have completed SBL4510 Professional Practice Foundation in order to complete this unit. This unit forms part of the Professional Practice program available to students wishing to proceed to a Bachelor of Commerce Professional. It is a prerequisite for SBL4530. The unit aims to develop a range of non-technical skills and attributes, as well as enhance student understanding of professional conduct, the realities of the working environment and the different career options available to them in their chosen field. It will help develop the skills required to interact effectively with other professionals and to contribute to the workplace. As this unit focuses on the personal and professional development of the individual, no RPL will be considered for this unit.

Non Standard Timetable Requirements

The unit comprises a minimum of 22 weeks of supervised work experience in a professional setting.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must have passed SBL4510.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply the relevant technical skills and knowledge of an entry-level graduate in a professional setting.
  2. Apply a range of non-technical skills expected of a entry-level graduate in a professional setting.
  3. Interact in a professional manner with internal and external stakeholders in a work setting.
  4. Adhere to a professional code of conduct in an approved workplace setting.

Unit Content

  1. Completion of supported work experience in an approved professional setting.
  2. Professional codes of conduct in workplace settings.
  3. Interacting effectively and productively with professionals in a work setting.
  4. Application of non-technical and technical skills in a professional setting.

Learning Experience

WIL - Internship, Clinical or Professional placement (off-campus)

Work done in an actual workplace in which the student applies discipline-specific knowledge and skills, supervised by an industry professional separate from an ECU campus or location.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Student learning will be directed by the Unit Coordinator/Lecturer and there will be ongoing liaison between the Unit Coordinator/Lecturer and student to ensure effective performance during the professional practice period. Students will need to maintain regular email contact and attend meetings with the Unit Coordinator/Lecturer as required. Students will be required to participate in on-campus sessions and site visits with their lecturer/Unit Coordinator and other participants in the Professional Practice program.Students may also be required to engage in independent and peer-based online tasks and activities that are aligned with assessments and other unit materials. Professional practice partners will be secured by staff in the Work Integrated Learning team. Terms of payment will be negotiated on an individual basis between the student and their host employer.
