Description

This unit will introduce students to the assessment and reporting of sustainability indicators. It will outline the processes for developing indicators for organisations, and the process of evaluation and reporting.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Evaluate emerging global sustainability practices.
  2. Critique sustainability assessment methods.
  3. Review a range of sustainability reporting frameworks that may be relevant to an organisation.
  4. Independently analyse communication methods for sustainability data.

Unit Content

  1. Background to sustainability from a local and international perspective.
  2. Current and emerging sustainability risks, trends and global landscape.
  3. Assessment guides and existing standards.
  4. The need for and role of sustainability assessment.
  5. Sustainability reporting frameworks and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) process.
  6. Overview of Stakeholder engagement methodologies.
  7. Communication of sustainability data.
  8. International assurance and auditing.
