Description

This unit will explore the concept of sustainability and how it applies in different contexts. A range of different types of sustainability assessment and sustainability reporting will be considered, with a particular focus on sustainability assessment as a planning and decision support tool, and corporate sustainability reporting.

Non Standard Timetable Requirements

The on campus version of this unit will be delivered through 4 all-day workshops across the semester.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply the concept of sustainability to different contexts and applications.
  2. Challenge the framing of a problem in order to promote a more sustainable solution.
  3. Apply sustainability assessment approaches to support planning and decision-making.
  4. Critique corporate sustainability reports, reflecting different reporting standards and practices.

  1. Sustainability concepts and discourses.
  2. Sustainability assessment processes and practices.
  3. Sustainability indicators for assessment and reporting.
  4. Sustainability reporting frameworks and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) process.
  5. Stakeholder engagement and communication for sustainability.
