This unit is designed to provide in-depth and practical experience in science. Students may elect to complete a project involving work integrated learning with a company, agency or university academic in their discipline area. Students undertaking this unit will demonstrate discipline knowledge, communication and collaboration skills in addition to a proven professional work ethic whilst undertaking projects in an industry setting.
Students must have completed at least 120 credit points of their current course of study before completing this unit.

Students will engage in learning experiences via ECU’s LMS as well as additional ECU learning technologies
Students will undertake, and be assessed on, authentic activities through engagement with industry and community partners.
Work done in an actual workplace in which the student applies discipline-specific knowledge and skills, supervised by an industry professional separate from an ECU campus or location.
This is a Work Integrated Learning unit designed to create an authentic learning experience in an industry setting where students can demonstrate the discipline knowledge and skills acquired throughout their degree. As such, this unit is not considered as part of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) requests. Students, under the supervision of a supervisor, will take responsibility for their own learning and professional outcomes through regular feedback with the supervisor and through independent study and research. The underpinning learning process is that of independent learning in which aspects of the work experience are reflected upon with a view to altering future behaviour, including academic and professional capabilities. In this unit the project is equivalent to 456 hours. The unit coordinator ensures that an agreed plan of work is executed and supervision is carried out by a project supervisor. Project supervisors may be academic supervisors within the university or hosts at external industry organisations.

Copying the words, ideas or creative works of other people or generative artificial intelligence tools, without referencing in accordance with stated University requirements. Students need to seek approval from the Unit Coordinator within the first week of study if they intend to use some of their previous work in an assessment task (self-plagiarism).
Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).
Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.
Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.
Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.

Students undertake an activity in collaboration or consultation with an industry partner but do not spend any time or only a very small amount of time (e.g. 1-2 short visits) in an actual workplace.
