Description

This unit examines the practice of developing and implementing environmental management in the private and public sectors to achieve desired environmental objectives and outcomes. A range of environmental management approaches will be considered including Environmental Management Plans and Environmental Management Systems and how they are used in business, industry and government.

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Identify and explain a range of environmental management tools.
  2. Address a contemporary environmental or sustainability related issue using a formal environmental management framework.
  3. Identify and evaluate current environmental management legislation and practices.
  4. Evaluate scientific resources and information relevant to environmental management.

Unit Content

  1. Definitions, evolution, goals and purposes of integrated environmental management.
  2. International applications of integrated environment management.
  3. Legislative, administrative and procedural basis for integrated environmental management.
  4. Location and interpretation of environmental management resources.
