Description

The unit is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and creative considerations involved in their particular specialisation in screen production. It develops an understanding of the requirements of a particular area of specialisation within a screen production team across a variety of types of screen products. It develops an awareness of the standards of specific skills, knowledge of technology, personal attributes, and creative contribution within the professional screen industry.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse the contribution of their personal specialisation to a screen project.
  2. Demonstrate mastery of skills required for a specific area of specialisation in a screen production process.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to use the specific equipment, technology, software, etc., used in their area of specialisation.
  4. Discuss the creative decisions made in an example of specialist work.
  5. Produce examples of their specialist work.
  6. Produce the documentation required for their specialization in the various phases of production.

Unit Content

  1. Current industry practice.
  2. Discussion of screen projects from the point of view of a particular specialisation.
  3. Exercises in various aspects of a specialisation.
  4. Problem-solving and trouble-shooting.
  5. Safety and security issues.
  6. The preparation, documentation, record-keeping and reporting requirements for an area of specialisation.
  7. The production hierarchy and teamwork issues.
  8. The role of the specialisation in the production matrix in various types of screen products.
