Description

This unit involves the pre-production, production and post-production of a screen project which is a documentary. Working in teams students take on the role of producer, writer, director, editor, cinematographer or sound recordist. Students will learn to appreciate, review and evaluate the art and craft of post-production documentary projects and apply their skills as members of the production teams.

Non Standard Timetable Requirements

This unit runs across two semesters.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Research and apply the core principles of narrative storytelling to the documentary format.
  2. Work effectively to schedules, budgets and production parameters.
  3. Demonstrate the discipline, commitment and interpersonal skills necessary to work as a member of a production team.
  4. Generate and maintain the documentation required for the production.
  5. Demonstrate the skills appropriate to the production role undertaken.

Unit Content

  1. In a specific production role the student will perform the appropriate duties during pre-production, production and post-production of a screen project.
  2. The student will generate, maintain and complete the required documentation for their production role.
  3. The student will maintain a journal of their activities during the production process.
  4. The student will prepare a report that reflects on the process and evaluates his/her contribution to the production.

Copying the words, ideas or creative works of other people or generative artificial intelligence tools, without referencing in accordance with stated University requirements. Students need to seek approval from the Unit Coordinator within the first week of study if they intend to use some of their previous work in an assessment task (self-plagiarism).

Unauthorised collaboration (collusion)

Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).

Contract cheating

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.

Assessment Extension
