Description

This unit involves the pre-production, production and post-production of a web-series, a serialised dramatic format that differs from the short film and documentary form, and entails an understanding of episodic story telling styles, devices and structure. Students will research the web-series format and apply this to an 8 episode format. Students may take on up to two of the following roles: producer, writer, director, editor, cinematographer, sound recordist or production designer. They will be required to practice team work and collaboration on the production and post-production of the series. Students will apply the knowledge and experience gained in other production units to their role as members of the production team for the series. At the conclusion of the project, they will synthesize their experience in a written report and evaluate their own performance and the performance of their peers in relation to their contribution to the completed project.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse and apply appropriate formats, structures, schedules and production parameters to the creation of an episodic drama.
  2. Practice and apply the discipline, commitment and interpersonal skills necessary to work as a member of a production team.
  3. Generate and maintain the documentation required for the production.
  4. Research and apply the skills appropriate to the production role(s) undertaken.
  5. Reflect upon performance and evaluate their contribution and the contribution of their peers to the creation of the completed work.

  2. Analysis of appropriate formats, structures and production parameters.
  3. Collaboration and soft skills required of a production team.
  4. Production and performance responsibilities of producer, writer, director, editor, cinematographer, sound recordist or production designer.
  5. Peer and self- reflection and evaluation.
  6. Industry specific documentation management and reporting.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
