Description

This unit develops the theoretical background necessary for planning productions of various types for the screen. Skills include research, concept development, budgeting, scheduling and documentation using industry models. Students will become familiar with various formats and genres of screen production and develop an understanding of the processes required to plan productions, deal with potential clients and to prepare the appropriate documents.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse a particular project to determine the requirements for personnel, resources, equipment and locations.
  2. Analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of the production planning process.
  3. Be familiar with the various documentation that is required to accomplish and deliver a screen project e.g. an implementation schedule, a detailed budget (using industry rates and awards), contracts and agreements, call sheets and reports.
  4. Demonstrate required theoretical knowledge necessary for planning screen productions and an ability to reflect critically on both theory and professional practice.
  5. Research and develop concepts for a range of screen productions, correctly adapting theoretical models to professional practice.
