Description

This unit develops a range of skills necessary for planning productions of various types for the screen. These skills include research, concept development, budgeting, scheduling and documentation using industry models. Students will develop an understanding and appreciation of each crew role in screen productions and the legal and safety issues associated with the screen industries. Students will work in teams to plan and produce projects, deal with potential clients and prepare appropriate documents.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse a particular project to determine the requirements for personnel, resources, equipment, locations, media and technical production.
  2. Collaborate successfully and understand and appreciate each crew role.
  3. Compile a professional portfolio consisting of CV, showreel, business card and online presence.
  4. Demonstrate effective modes of communication with all screen industry crew roles.
  5. Prepare and work to detailed schedules that include formal quality assurance processes to implement, execute and deliver screen projects.
  6. Research and develop concepts for dramatic and factual productions for small and large screen.
  7. Work effectively to schedules, budgets and production parameters.

  2. Effective communication, legal and ethical issues
  3. Effective post production pathways
  4. Occupational health and safety issues in the screen industry
  5. Pre-production processes – project Instigation and research
  6. Preparation and production of pitch materials for a feature film
  7. Production roles, responsibilities and authority in the hierarchy of screen production
  8. Professional portfolio to industry standards

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
