Description

This unit will provide the participant with principles underlying the capacity to conduct independent research in a security environment. Participants will plan and undertake an individual research project concerned with security science or the application or management of security technology in the work place. The project will require the participant to be involved in research relevant to the security sector and the project topic should involve the planning of an applied investigation.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from SCY1101

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Conduct a literature review of studies relevant to the project.
  2. Define a problem to be investigated as a project.
  3. Develop a project timetable.
  4. Prepare a Feasibility Report for the project.
  5. Prepare a proposed budget for the project.
  6. Present a seminar on the study.
  7. Propose a method for the project.
  8. Review the relevant background and theory for the project.
  9. Specify aims and objectives of the project.

Unit Content

  1. Develop a literature review of the study that is relevant to the security related problem.
  2. Identify a security related problem as a research project.
  3. Prepare the Feasibility Report as the creative phase of the project where the topic is determined and a project developed. The Feasibility Report will discuss the background and theory of the project, the importance of the literature review and methodology.
  4. Present a seminar on the Feasibility Report of the project.
  5. Specify appropriate aims and objectives to conduct the investigation.
  6. Study methods of research, including qualitative and quantitative studies.
