Description

This unit introduces students to intelligence analysis methodologies commonly used in the strategic environment. Students will explore fundamental issues of strategic warning, surprise and the role of uncertainty as it pertains to strategic assessment. The relationship between intelligence and the creation of policy will also be explored. The students will be required to develop a strategic intelligence product as a part of this unit.

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse a real world strategic intelligence problem.
  2. Analyse how strategic failure occurs.
  3. Evaluate, select and use strategic intelligence analysis methodologies appropriate to specified tasks.
  4. Formulate appropriate strategic indicators and warnings.
  5. Generate strategic intelligence products.
  6. Reflect on the relationship between analysts and policy makers.

  9. Surprise and intelligence failure in the strategic domain.
  10. The strategic intelligence report.
