Description

This unit extends student knowledge of human anatomy with a focus on the multiplanar spatial characteristics of the organs and structures in the head, neck, thorax and limbs. Students learn to apply their knowledge to evaluate images such as ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Emphasis is placed on learning how to recognise and describe anatomical structures from cross sectional, coronal and sagittal planes, at various stages of human growth and development, from the foetus to adult.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Describe the three-dimensional anatomy of structures and organs in the head, neck, thorax and limbs and their spatial relationships.
  2. Interpret and compare the greyscale appearances of different tissue types and body structures using various medical imaging modalities.
  3. Identify anatomical variants and abnormalities of head, neck, thorax and limbs from multiplanar images

Unit Content

  1. The anatomy of the head, neck, thorax and limbs in three-dimensions, and various anatomical planes, from foetus to adult.
  2. Comparison of imaging results from ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.
  3. Anatomical variants (where applicable): situs inversus and situs inversus totalis.

Contract cheating

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
