This unit provides instruction in the history, scope, application and applied significance of Speech Pathology Australias Competency-Based Occupational Standards (CBOS), the associated measure of clinical performance among students, the Competency Assessment in Speech Pathology (COMPASS), and the World Health Organization International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health (WHO ICF), the standard framework for descriptions of health and health related states. Students will receive instruction in the development of portfolios to facilitate the development of individual learning plans and reflective practices. They also attend local schools with a high population of students from multi-cultural background to introduce clinical experience.

Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.
