Description

This unit links theory and practice in speech pathology to develop specialist evaluation skills in order to plan clinical services for a wide range of clients from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. The student will identify an individual with communication or swallowing difficulties and will develop an evidence based assessment protocol. The process will then be written in a format suitable for publication in a topic-relevant speech pathology journal.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from SPE3107

Co-Requisite Rule

Must be enrolled in course version K71, Y02

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Collect case information from clients from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds in accordance with the WHO ICF.
  2. Design appropriate data analyses.
  3. Plan an appropriate assessment strategy founded on evidence-based practice.
  4. Produce a report containing an evidence based protocol for the assessment of the single case in accordance with publication guidelines specified by a suitable journal.

  2. Evidence-based practice relating to diagnosis, assessment tools and methodologies in speech and language pathology.
  3. Publication guidelines and scientific writing skills for reporting single case studies.
