Description

This unit introduces students to the use of creativity and innovation to meet the changing needs of clients, the speech pathology profession and the broader health system into the future. The unit focuses on identifying areas of service gaps and applying a systematic approach to find innovative solutions. Attention is also given to the process of implementing change within the discipline and contributing to the practical uptake of research findings within speech pathology practice.

Non Standard Timetable Requirements

Compulsory participation session(s) may be delivered during the inter-semester break between Semesters 1 and 2.

Students must have completed SPE3108

Co-Requisite Rule

Students must be enrolled in Y02

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Identify gaps in speech pathology service delivery to improve professional practice.
  2. Create novel solutions to address gaps in speech pathology service provision.
  3. Evaluate the drivers of change within healthcare environments to inform service delivery decisions.
  4. Propose systematic improvements in speech pathology services.

Learning Experience

Students will engage in learning experiences via ECU’s LMS as well as additional ECU learning technologies

Additional Learning Experience Information

The lectures in this unit are delivered online. However, there is at least one compulsory participation session that will be delivered on-campus. The online modules introduce the central concepts of the unit and guide students through the literature. The on-campus session(s) are highly interactive. Students participate in group discussion, case studies and active problem solving activities to consolidate learning.

Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant School Progression Panel.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit information may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
