This is a capstone unit for sport, recreation and event management students and as such the unit is a project unit where students are expected to work independently to prepare a business plan based on the written and lecture material provided in the unit. The teaching and learning approach in this unit is enhanced through direct involvement with an industry organisation or association to understand specific market requirements as a basis for a realistic business plan (task identification, problem solving capacity, development of ideas and working collaboratively by effectively communicating with industry). Students are required to complete individual assessment items by undertaking a level of quality research, developing a marketing plan, a business plan and a financial plan on behalf of an organisation. Student learning is underpinned by in-class discussions and guidance via a unit workbook. This unit applies the theory and learning from previous sport, recreation and events units including financial knowledge and research methods.
