Description

Sport Business Planning is the capstone unit for sport, recreation and event management students. Students work collaboratively with an organisation or association to understand specific market and industry requirements, and identify current and future issues and challenges. They will integrate and apply disciplinary knowledge, theories and technical skills such as planning, research and report-writing to an authentic business situation with intellectual independence. The unit traces the business planning process, culminating in the development of a comprehensive and realistic business plan, which is essential for future employment.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must have passed a minimum of 180 credit points.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Integrate appropriate business theories, discipline and industry knowledge to critically evaluate an existing sport or recreation business.
  2. Conceptualise issues for an existing sport or recreation business applying appropriate tools and analyses.
  3. Generate innovative solutions to address current and future issues for an existing sport or recreation business.
  4. Produce a comprehensive business plan for an existing sport or recreation organisation that is strategically aligned.

Additional Learning Experience Information

The on-campus mode of delivery for this unit is through a combination of on-campus seminars and independent student project work facilitated by a unit workbook of activities; the off-campus mode of delivery requires regular on-line access via Blackboard to the podcasts of seminar slides and independent student project work facilitated by a unit workbook of activities. Student learning is underpinned by in-class and on-line discussions, guidance via a unit workbook of activities and individual consultation with the unit lecturer as required. The teaching and learning approach in this unit is enhanced through direct involvement with an existing industry organisation or association to understand specific market requirements as a basis for a realistic business plan.

Contract cheating

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
