This unit provides an overview of funding and financial management for the sport, recreation and event industries. The unit examines economic theory, including the concepts of supply and demand, markets and demand assessment, and pricing policies and strategies relevant to the provision of sport, recreation and events. Students will be introduced to the processes used to assess the financial health of organisations enabling them to develop the financial and strategic management skills required for the management of sport organisations, recreation services and events.

The teaching and learning approach in this unit is enhanced through in-class and on-line discussions where students are encouraged to discuss and debate the financial health of various sport, recreation and event organisations, and reflect on matters that impact on organisational management and financial decision making. Critical appraisal and the ability to generate ideas are emphasised. Successful completion of the unit requires individual assessment items which are assessed for quality academic and professional standards, including written communication (structure, language and conventions), critical analysis (depth of thought, development of argument, logical analysis and insight), depth and breadth of coverage and ability to research effectively using both academic and contemporary sources.
