Description

Reality programs in all their forms are a constant part of our daily viewing experience. This unit begins with an examination of the social, cultural and economic significance of the non-fiction genre before proceeding to practical instruction in screen factual production techniques applied in a variety of contexts.

Prerequisite Rule

Must have passed SPO1100

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Collaborate in screen factual writing, research and production.
  2. Apply appropriate ethical standards of practice in working with the community.
  3. Practise professional roles in screen factual production.
  4. Produce screen factual content.

Unit Content

  1. Developing and pitching concepts.
  2. Screen factual formats and applications.
  3. Protocols and ethics of working with the community.
  4. Professional practice in the multi-cam television studio.

Additional Learning Experience Information

This unit will be delivered using technology enhanced learning, a learner-centered approach. Central to technology-enhanced learning is completing self-directed online activities outside of class contact time. Students are required to complete set readings and viewings before class. These preparatory activities introduce students to initial, relatable conceptions of the topics, which are reinforced through lectures and tutorials.
