Description

This unit comprises selected theoretical and practical skills related to group exercise and sports massage. Students will learn how to design and implement group exercise programs for different fitness levels in a variety of contexts and fitness modalities. Students will learn how to effectively administer sports massage with the goal of assisting sports performance and recovery of injuries.

Students must pass 1 units from EBH1101

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a high level of practical skills and correct techniques associated with group exercise and massage.
  2. Discuss the physiological basis and benefits to be obtained from group exercise and massage.
  3. Plan and implement an effective programme in group exercise and massage.

  1. Development of personal skills in the delivery of group exercise and sports massage.
  2. Practical applications associated with skilful performance in group exercise and sports massage.
  3. Theoretical bases of group exercise and sports massage.
  4. Benefits of group exercise and sports massage.
  5. The role of group exercise in the fitness and sporting industries.

The unit will be largely practical in nature with supporting theory sessions and on-line lectures as appropriate.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.

This unit comprises selected theoretical and practical skills related to individual and group exercise. Students will learn how to design and implement exercise programs for different fitness levels in a variety of contexts and fitness modalities. The unit focuses on the instruction and leadership of exercise sessions and is based on best practice to meet the specific health, fitness and/or sports performance goals of apparently healthy clients.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Integrate high level practical skills and correct techniques associated with individual and group exercise delivery to prevent injury and maintain client motivation.
  2. Communicate the physiological and psycho-social benefits of exercise to clients.
  3. Apply the principles of motor learning and skill acquisition to effectively deliver group exercise programs.
  4. Plan and implement an effective programme for individual and group exercise to achieve health outcomes.
  5. Undertake work integrated learning centred on the design and delivery of exercise programmes in a health and fitness setting.
