Description

This unit provides the opportunity to gain an understanding of the principles and application of sport, exercise and health psychology. It will assist students in enhancing the peak performance and coping strategies of athletes and coaches. The knowledge gained will also be applied to the promotion of exercise adherence and psychological well-being to the wider population.

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse the psychological factors that impact upon sport, exercise and health participation and practice.
  2. Apply knowledge of psychological theories to recommend practical solutions to sport, exercise and health problems.
  3. Communicate knowledge of sport, exercise and health psychology to promote exercise adherence to diverse audiences.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Students will have the opportunity to manoeuvre the process of interviewing a chosen client to gather perspective, apply theories and models learned in class, and practice responsibility of preparing a tailored exercise and behaviour plan. Students will recruit an adult participant to interview, giving the students the chance to apply the information gathered with knowledge of psychology to their semester project. There is a strong emphasis on applying psychology to unique aspects of sport and exercise to improve overall health.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
