Description

In this advanced unit, students will learn how to support and enhance improvements in human performance. They will apply concepts and theories of motor control, learning and psychology as they evaluate contemporary issues in exercise and sports science. Students will apply a range of research methodologies to collect information about clinical and elite sporting populations. Students will be required to review relevant literature to better understand best practice, and will collect and analyse data to inform their knowledge of practical implications.

Prerequisite Rule

Must have passed SPS2622 and SPS2516

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Use theories of Motor Control & Learning and Psychology when evaluating human performance.
  2. Apply knowledge of best practice in Motor Control & Learning and Psychology to inform appropriate research methodology selection.
  3. Analyse qualitative and/or quantitative data to address research questions.
  4. Interpret and report outcomes using data visualisation techniques to various target audiences.

WIL - Project

Students undertake an activity in collaboration or consultation with an industry partner but do not spend any time or only a very small amount of time  (e.g. 1-2 short visits) in an actual workplace.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Students will actively participate in all laboratory activities demonstrating knowledge and application of the content from the required readings. Students will work collaboratively in small groups to complete the data collection and analysis for each topic.

Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
