Description

This unit introduces students to the theoretical and practical aspects of sports coaching and provides the knowledge and skills to plan and deliver effective training programs for both junior and senior athletes. Emphasis is placed on evaluating and improving all aspects of sports coaching performance.

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Design training programs to improve planning and delivery of sports coaching programs.
  2. Apply knowledge of safety and risk management in sports coaching contexts.
  3. Compare models of the sports coach to determine coaching effectiveness.
  4. Critically evaluate coaching performance to improve professional coaching practice.
  5. Critically analyse the match and player to improve performance.

  4. Principles and practices of exercise and sports science used to plan and deliver effective sports programs.
  5. Coaching tools and techniques.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.
