In this unit, students develop their research skills by planning a research project designed to demonstrate and extend existing knowledge in the exercise and sports science domain under the supervision of an academic staff member (or members). This includes reviewing scientific literatureon the topic of the research project, generation of research questions and hypotheses, clarification of the objectives of the research project, designing a study to test the hypotheses, writing up a research proposal, and making an oral presentation explaining the proposed research project to an academic audience.

On completion of this unit students should be able to:
The unit will be based on individual consultation with each student. Initially these consultations will be with the Unit Coordinator, continuing until a suitable project and supervisor have been identified. From this point on, the student will consult principally with the Supervisor. The Unit Coordinator will, however, maintain contact with the student.
