Description

This unit introduces students to the practice of social research. This unit has been designed to develop student skills in locating, consuming and critically appraising research. The unit will cover different research methodologies and methods as well as the use of information technology in research processes.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the use of Information Technology in locating and accessing research literature.
  2. Describe the ethical issues involved in social research.
  3. Describe the major philosophical approaches to social research.
  4. Understand the differences between good and poor sources of information.
  5. Understand the role of research in human service practice in the development of services, policy, and practice.
