Description

Students will use a project management approach to develop well-considered responses to an identified project relevant to social work in any of the areas of direct practice, service management, system change, policy, research and/or education. Students will develop their projects within a framework of project management and leadership knowledge and skills.

On-campus: The unit is taught through self-directed study supported by lectures and facilitated discussion groups. Off-campus: The unit is taught online and involves self directed study supported by online resources and tuition

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 2 units from SWK3115, SWK3121

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Identify a relevant, contemporary social work problem or issue amenable to a project based response.
  2. Prepare project plans, reports and scope statements.
  3. Understand and apply project management knowledge to the development of a project plan.
  4. Understand and demonstrate leadership skills.

  1. Leadership skills.
  2. Models of leadership.
  3. Preparation of a project plan using a project management approach that includes project scope, strategy and outcomes, risk management, time and cost management, communications and human resource management, evaluation.
  4. Problem/issue identification.
  5. Project management knowledge and skills.
