This unit provides students with hands on experience in developing a social work research project. Social work research seeks to increase understandings of contemporary social issues, enhance practice and advance equality. Students work with a supervisor to develop a research proposal. Social work is open to a range of approaches to research. Students are able to pursue topics and methodologies relevant to their practice interests. Students undertake a review of the current knowledge relevant to their topic, develop a research methodology that incorporates understandings of knowledge, forms of data and approaches to analysis suited to exploring their topic, and apply for an ethics clearance to carry out their research.
