Description

This unit consolidates knowledge of social work research and practice by providing students with the opportunity to implement a previously developed research proposal through project-based inquiry. Students work with a supervisor to carry out the research and to report their findings. Students systematically collect and analyse data in accordance with their research methodology and ethics clearance. Students write a scholarly dissertation of between 8,000-10,000 words to report research findings.

Students must pass 1 units from SWK5124, SWK5224

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Execute a systematic data collection methodology using established research methods.
  2. Analyse research data in a systematic way.
  3. Demonstrate an ability to present research findings within a theoretical framework and research tradition.
  4. Evaluate research findings for application to social work knowledge and practice.
  5. Demonstrate an ability to prepare a comprehensive report research in the form of an academic thesis.
  6. Write a cogent and clear dissertation.
