Description

This unit teaches students the basic, introductory skills, methodologies, contexts and techniques used in the application of the software of CAD (Computer-Aided Drawing) as used by spatial designers preparing creative design work for fabrication.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Create plans, sections and elevations of objects to given specifications.
  2. Describe methods used to reproduce and transmit CAD information.
  3. Describe the application of CAD to the fabrication of physical objects.
  4. Design and produce a basic 3D model of an object using CAD.
  5. Open, create and develop finished CAD files to given specifications.
  6. Use a CAD software package proficiently, and print finished and accurate CAD drawings.

Unit Content

  1. Basic 2D drafting and 3D modelling.
  2. Basic concepts of 2D and 3D geometry.
  3. Current uses of CAD.
  4. Drawing reproduction and transmission.
  5. Referencing and organising CAD data.
  6. Use of relevant software and hardware.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
