Description

This unit addresses the issues of project design management and spatial design production. The unit engages students in a complex, spatial design project under the guidance of design staff. Students will be expected to create formal design briefs and design documentation to support their ultimate design outcomes. Students will engage in problem finding and problem solving, working individually and in teams. Topics such as wayfinding, universal design and sustainability will be considered. Students will be expected to carry out research relevant to problems discovered in a large-scale retail space or other suitable complex environment such as a campus or urban environment.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Draft and construct a given 3D design brief and work to the specifications of that brief.
  2. Draft and plan design specification documents to a professional level of competence.
  3. Plan, research, design and manage a complex 3D project.
  4. Produce and organise a design process work diary.

  6. Human needs and wants.
  7. Presenting design work to clients and in class using appropriate technology.
  8. The business and context of design, both local and international.
  9. Universal access.
  10. Wayfinding and navigation in complex spaces.
  11. Writing reports for clients.
