The focus is on applying these concepts and techniques to develop problem solving skills applicable to everyday life.

Non Standard Timetable Requirements

UPU0006 utilises a blended delivery mode which includes both face-to-face and electronic delivery of materials, activities and assessments.

Co-Requisite Rule

Must be enrolled in course type 30

Equivalent Rule

Unit was previously coded UPC0003, UPU0003

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply mathematical strategies and reasoning to formulated problems.
  2. Demonstrate competence in mathematical computations with real numbers.
  3. Demonstrate understanding ofmathematical concepts in business and finance.
  4. Display competence in solving problems related to 2 and 3 dimensional shapes.
  5. Use probability and statistical measures to interpret, analyse and draw conclusions from data.
  6. Use variables to solve algebraic equations and solve linear equations.

Unit Content

  1. Algebra and word problems.
  2. Decimals, fractions, percentages and mathematical operations.
  3. Financial and business-based problems.
