Description

Study within the humanities aims to create an understanding of what it means to be human in today's society by developing awareness of culture, society and personal identity. This unit aims to develop an understanding of language, key concepts and skills crucial to essay writing, critical thinking and analysis in university learning. The unit provides a framework for students proceeding to undergraduate courses that include studies in the humanities.

Non Standard Timetable Requirements

This intensive unit is taught over three days in an accelerated delivery mode.

Co-Requisite Rule

Must be enrolled in Uni Prep Accelerate course

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Use discipline specific language and comprehension skills to research and analyse information related to the humanities.
  2. Compose an effective academic essay, using an appropriate number of scholarly resources.
  3. Use critical thinking and creative problem solving skills to articulate arguments relating to the humanities.

Unit Content

  1. The role of humanities in society.
  2. Critical thinking in the humanities discipline.
  3. Research, reading and comprehension skills.
  4. Oral and debating skills.

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECUs LMS
