Description

This interdisciplinary unit facilitates students from various creative arts backgrounds to extend their artistic repertoire by furthering their understanding of spatial relationships between people, spaces, things (objects and materials), text and time. Students are introduced to global developments in contemporary art including: installation art, performance and time-based works, public art and environmental art, ephemeral art and sound art. Spatial and sensory analytical skills help develop a self-directed creative project. Experimental, collaborative and interdisciplinary projects are welcome.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Define developments in contemporary art and alternative practice.
  2. Apply spatial and sensory analysis skills.
  3. Produce artworks using a range of media that show evidence of research and informed practice.
  4. Demonstrate and articulate spatial and material choices, technical skills development and contexts for their work.
  5. Conceive of and generate a creative project and project report.
  6. Demonstrate professional and safe working practices.
