Description

This unit concentrates on the development of a self-initiated project through thorough research into ideas, processes, materials, and outcomes. It seeks to develop advanced skills in project planning and management. The objective is to develop a substantial project that addresses relevant historical and theoretical issues, as well as the provision for multiple options in realization and outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Discuss the cultural and historical relationships between arts research and practice.
  2. Discuss the technical and aesthetic judgments adopted in a range of studio specific and interdisciplinary works.
  3. Formulate multiple conceptual, technical, and material options for the development of ideas.
  4. Outline the individual creative processes and working methodologies that underpin the realization of a major project.
  5. Produce visual research material that supports their contemporary arts practices and outcomes.

Unit Content

  1. Case studies of both realised and unrealised artists projects.
  2. Designing a comprehensive project proposal.
  3. Detailed and realistic project timelines.
  4. Preparatory work in the studio - testing, translating, and articulating your idea.
  5. Presenting your project.

Description

This unit concentrates on the development of a self-initiated project through thorough research into ideas, processes, materials, and outcomes. Students may choose to adopt an interdisciplinary approach across various studios, or specialise in a medium that they wish to pursue further. The objective is to develop a substantial project that addresses relevant historical and theoretical issues, as well as the provision for multiple options in realization and outcomes. This unit is vital preparation for students working towards their graduate exhibition.
