Description

The on campus component of the unit prepares graduate pre-service teachers to engage in a professional practice in a school setting. This includes core lectures, assessment tasks and a range of guest lecturers who are industry specialists. The Final Professional Practice provides graduate pre-service teachers with an opportunity to apply knowledge and skills gained in the second professional practice and to further consolidate the connection between theory and practice. Graduate pre-service teachers plan and prepare appropriate learning activities which demonstrate an advanced and integrated understanding of the developmental needs and interests of the children in their class. This unit gives the graduate pre-service teacher an opportunity for continuous planning, teaching and assessment as they gradually assume responsibility for the learning program in the classroom. It allows the graduate pre-service teacher the opportunity to master the teaching skills required to function as an autonomous practitioner. Graduate pre-service teachers will be required to adhere to the School of Educations Professional Practice Rules and Procedures and Code of Professional Conduct. They are required to hold a current National Criminal History Check (NCHC) and Working with Children Check (WWC) before commencing their practicum. This is a designated unit.
