This major is recommended for students wishing to focus their studies towards a career in the expanding planning or urban/regional development sectors of the economy. Urban and regional planning employers increasingly require graduates to also have a thorough grounding in business knowledge, environmental management and practical skills. This major equips students with the knowledge, the practical experience and transferable employability skills, including leadership, teamwork, critical thinking, communication and problem-solving, required to function as business professionals and industry participants in contemporary urban and regional planning organisations. Course Exclusion: This major cannot be studied under the Bachelor of Planning or Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning courses.

On Campus at Joondalup
Students have the opportunity to shadow a professional planner in a private practice or government planning department within The Practice of Planning unit.
Students are required to attend a private practice or government department for three days.
Students are provided with information on required behaviour while in the workplace.

Potential careers exist in the public sector including State and local government planning departments, and private planning firms, as well as consulting in areas such as community development, sustainable development, transport planning, heritage and urban design. In recent years, opportunities for planners with business knowledge have occurred with property developers, environmental groups, housing agencies and urban design companies.
