This major provides students with an understanding of the broad range of areas relevant to contemporary policing. Adopting a justice perspective, students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in the business of policing and policing business. Particular areas of focus are intelligence, security, investigative practices, interviewing procedures, specialist policing units, and crime prevention and ethics. Although learning occurs within the context of an evidence-based policing paradigm, emphasis is placed on the practical skills relevant to this discipline area. The major is relevant to students with an interest in criminology and justice, but has a wider appeal to social work, psychology, security and students enrolled in the social sciences or humanities.
