Film and Video Major

This major aims to develop imaginative and innovative screen producers for a world immersed in screen culture. Embracing a collaborative, mentored approach, this major offers units in production, theory and writing for screen. The major provides opportunities for developing creative expression, vocational skills and a critical appreciation of screen culture and technologies. It trains students to think critically, to work collaboratively, and to develop a portfolio of their own work. Exceptional graduates will be encouraged to apply for the School's honours program or the prestigious Master of Screen Studies at the WA Screen Academy.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Adapt knowledge and skills to apply innovative and creative content in a range of professional contexts specific to area(s) of specialisation.
  2. Demonstrate broad and coherent knowledge in depth of the theoretical and historical perspectives of film and video in the understanding and analysis of different creative works.
  3. Demonstrate initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving, and decision making during development and management of creative film and video projects specific to area(s) of specialisation.
  4. Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own learning to accommodate key stake-holders and reflect upon the process of film and video projects.
  5. Exercise critical thinking and judgement in the application of appropriate production techniques to fulfil industry specific roles.
  6. Review, analyse, and synthesise theoretical and technical knowledge to create innovative screen media works that utilise the creative and communicative possibilities of various screen technologies.
  7. Successfully communicate knowledge and ideas through the development of effective digital media products for a variety of platforms.
