This major is a unique blend of management and health to address the desired competencies in effective leadership and management of healthcare professionals. The major addresses the growing need for healthcare professionals to effectively manage healthcare settings in private and public health, aged care and community services. Effective leadership and management is crucial in the healthcare industry where continuous change requires people of vision and commitment to meet the challenges of providing effective health care and optimising outcomes within a diverse population. The Health Management major develops key graduate attributes to manage complex problems in addressing workplace needs, opportunities and challenges in health management. Students will gain an understanding of human resource management, health, society and sustainability, organisational behaviour, communicable disease control, health promotion planning and administration, strategic management and leadership. They will be equipped to gain positions in hospital settings, aged care facilities, clinics, outpatient facilities, schools and a range of healthcare environments, as facility, allied health, clinical nurse, or corporate services managers. This major aims to provide transformative educational experiences to prepare healthcare professionals to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and perform at a strategic business level through critical reflection and learning.
