Security and Intelligence Major

Security is becoming an ever increasing concern at the societal, organisational and community levels. In modern times, knowledge exists that informs professionals in the pursuit of a safe and secure world. Therefore, this unit set brings together key knowledge and skill to enable the professional to warn (using Intelligence) and protect (using Security). Students will undertake specialised study in how to assess threats, manage risk, diagnose both the intelligence and security problems, and undertake authentic real world security and intelligence tasks to develop prevention strategies to secure people, information and property.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Assimilate a broad discipline of knowledge from many sources to various security and intelligence requirements to overcome insecurity in society.
  2. Use structured thinking processes in criminological or protective security contexts to analyse, conceptualise and solve complex societal problems.
  3. Think creatively to identify the needs of diverse stakeholders to generate innovative solutions to professional problems.
  4. Use digital technologies to access, evaluate and communicate complex security and intelligence information from multiple and diverse sources.
  5. Construct purposeful communication in a variety of formats to achieve discipline outcomes in a professional context.
  6. Review reliable sources and resources to investigate how different cultural attitudes and values impact the fields of security and intelligence.
  7. Work collaboratively to recognise the way in which beliefs and values of others influence the pursuit of societal wellbeing.
  8. Demonstrate autonomy, accountability and judgement towards own learning and professional practice in supporting societal wellbeing.
