Screen, Media and Cultural Studies Major

Effective from 01-JUL-2024 : Code MAAALH

An opportunity to produce creative and engaging content for the screen will be developed in this major. Students will gain highly developed critical cultural understandings, that will provide them with a leading edge in concept development, management and directing, camera and editing to produce dynamic content for the screen. Students will gain international insights and work in state-of-the-art studios and forge creative and technical skills alongside developing creative partnerships.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply Media, Communication and Cultural Studies knowledge to a range of theoretical and technical/practical local, international and global media situations.
  2. Think critically to analyse, interpret and conceptualise/synthesise complex Media & Communication knowledge/problems with an understanding of cultural, social and political influences.
  3. Think creatively to anticipate challenges and generate Media and Communication solutions/responses.
  4. Use digital technologies and Media and Communication related literacy to access, evaluate and synthesise relevant information from multiple sources.
  5. Communicate local, international and global Media and Communication knowledge and ideas clearly, coherently and with independence.
  6. Demonstrate a global outlook with respect for cultural diversity, including Indigenous cultural competence.
  7. Work collaboratively and demonstrate initiative to implement social, sustainable, and ethical values through appropriate disciplinary methods.
