Food and Materials Technologies: Home Economics Major

This major prepares students to take on the challenges of teaching Food and Materials Technologies: Home Economics Education in a range of subject areas across Years 7 to 12. Students receive specialised instruction in both the theory and practical components relating to Food, Materials and Technologies: Home Economics specialisations, Hospitality, Textiles, Food Science Technologies, Children, Family and Community studies, and other subjects in the Western Australian curriculum associated with this specific learning area.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate broad and coherent knowledge of Food and Materials Technologies: Home Economics education and the Western Australian curriculum, which has been adapted and adopted from Australian Curriculum, and specialised teaching strategies for Food and Materials Technologies: Home Economics teaching in secondary education.
  2. Review, analyse and synthesise knowledge of teaching strategies to plan for the content of Food and Materials Technologies: Home Economics teaching.
  3. Exercise critical thinking and judgement to plan and implement Food and Materials Technologies: Home Economics programs for a range of students with diverse abilities and needs, and assess the outcomes.
  4. Communicate knowledge and ideas clearly in both written and oral formats.
  5. Demonstrate leadership, exercise professional judgement and collaborate to plan, problem solve and make decisions in Food and Materials Technologies education: Home Economics.
  6. Adapt knowledge and skills in diverse contexts to create positive, inclusive learning environments in Food and Materials Technologies: Home Economics education.
  7. Critically reflect using accredited standards, mentor feedback and the ECA Code of Ethics to demonstrate responsibility and accountability and plan for continued collaborative and autonomous professional learning and development.
