Performance Practice Major

Effective from 01-JAN-2025 : Code MAAALL

This major focuses on foundational skills necessary for a contemporary career in independent and commercial performance making, and the field of performance making as social practice. Students will receive training in vocal and movement technique and wellbeing, acquire skills in stagecraft, design and technical theatre, and investigate contemporary performance theories. In a final independent project, students work in small pre-professional companies to conceive, research, rehearse and produce their own performance. Historical context units help students to build up knowledge and understanding of the roots of contemporary performance practice. There is a particular focus on the twentieth century developments in practices, philosophies, and theories of performance, and how those developments inform the current landscape of experimental performance.
