Physical Science Education Major

Effective from 01-JAN-2015 : Code MABUTT

This major addresses key physical science understandings and provides the extended content knowledge needed to address the demands and opportunities of the secondary school physical science curriculum. Emphasis is given to inquiry-based practical work, demonstrations, co-operative group work, whole class discussions and use of information communication technology, to ensure effective learning and teaching practices in secondary science. Planning, teaching, and assessment strategies will be developed within a range of science content areas. It is strongly recommended that students completing this major also complete the Mathematics minor.

Special Admission Requirements

All students are required to have WACE Stage 3 Mathematics, with equivalents considered, and WACE 3A/3B Chemistry or WACE 3A/3B Physics, with equivalents considered.

This major focuses on the teaching processes and content that equips graduates to teach general science in lower secondary school and to take a specialist teaching role in physical science courses (e.g. Chemistry and Physics) in upper secondary school (Years 11 and 12). It is strongly recommended that students completing this major also complete the Mathematics minor.
