Research in performing arts at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts covers a diversity of creative disciplines. Particular strengths include electronic music and sound art, historical performance practice (especially early keyboard), Jazz and contemporary music, dance and choreography, physical theatre, theatre-making (acting, directing, script-writing), dance health, and motion capture applications. We have an established record of leadership and success within practice-led-research, with many staff well-recognised in the profession as well as academia. The school boasts world-class performance facilities, extensive rehearsal and studio space, Australia’s largest collection of historic pianos, and state of the art laboratories for sound spatialisation and motion capture. Specific postgraduate research topics are typically developed in conjunction with the postgraduate coordinator or potential supervisors. We welcome applications from graduates and elite artist-practitioners across the gamut of the performing arts, particularly those who aspire to innovation, excellence, and leadership within their creative practice and through their contributions to academic discourse.
