Engineering - Computer Systems PhD Unit Set

Computer Systems research at ECU concentrates on automation, visual information processing and artificial intelligence technologies including robotics, deep learning and advanced computer vision systems. Specific postgraduate research topics are developed in conjunction with the postgraduate coordinator or potential supervisor, however applications are particularly encouraged from those with an interest in: Automation and robotics; Autonomous drones; Visual information processing; Computer vision; Pattern recognition; Applications of deep learning. Researchers in the school are currently involved in projects investigating techniques to enable the operation of robotic systems in unstructured environments, application of deep learning approaches to robotic manipulation and computer vision, advanced visual processing for recognition of elements in natural images, document imaging, and high data capacity barcode systems. The Schools state of the art labs contain advanced computing facilities and a range of robotic systems.
