Our research in applied statistics and mathematical modelling focuses predominantly on applications to fisheries, mining, public health and nutrition, biological sciences, and medical and exercise sciences. For example, our mathematicians, in collaboration with fisheries scientists, are applying statistical and mathematical modeling to provide critical evaluations of catch rates and effort for fisheries management. They also develop new geostatistical techniques for the modelling of spatial data for assessment of spatial uncertainty. Mathematical Sciences research at ECU concentrates on: Geostatistical modelling of spatial and spatiotemporal data Bayesian statistics and modelling Biostatistics Mathematical modelling and operations research Specific postgraduate research topics related to the above topics are developed in conjunction with the postgraduate coordinator in consultation with the potential supervisor. The School has state-of-the-art computing facilities to support the research, and places a high emphasis on collaborations with industry, government agencies and not-for-profit organisations to enhance the postgraduate experience.
This unit set information may be updated and amended immediately prior to semester. To ensure you have the correct outline, please check it again at the beginning of semester. In particular please check the unit and unit set offerings, as these differ according to course delivery location.
It is desirable that all applicants contact a potential supervisor to discuss their research project before applying. Information about ECU's Research Institutions, Centres and Supervisors can be found in the school brochures listed on the Applying for a Research Degree website or the staff contact page of the relevant School.
